Coupla dudes

Danzig

I’ve been toying with the idea of attempting another stop motion project. My last attempt – almost 10 years ago now – was a (mild) success in that we walked away with something and we learned an important lesson: Stop motion is fuggin hard.

The idea of creating characters and stories that aren’t bound to reality is very appealing but the logistics of stop motion are daunting. To build a simple character that will move fluidly and won’t mutate during production is just one of the many hurdles you have to clear to make a short.

To get the ball rolling I created these two dudes. They look okay but they’re totally unusable for animation (despite my efforts to do so). I’ll keep experimenting but I’m starting to think looking for a material other than clay might be the best solution.

Greetings from Japan

Marilyn took this on a recent trip to Japan. It would make a great postcard, no?

Ferry Ride

Did another bike/camping tour to Sechelt with Andrew and another broski. Here are some candids snapped on the Ferry ride over.

On an unrelated note, I’ve been using this supa schweet music service called Rdio. I tell everyone I know about it but I’m pretty sure not a single person has bothered to check it out. I guess my word doesn’t carry much clout these days. Despite my inability to generate interest for the thing IRL, I’m going to hype it here to whatever goofballs may still be periodically checking this blog. Peep my steez here. For only 5 bones a month you have access to a massive music library. It’s pretty much what I’ve been dreaming of my entire life. An affordable – and most importantly – easy way to explore new music. Check eeeeettt ouuuuuut.

Pedestrian action

Over a longish period of time I plan on compiling a library of images that, to me, represent Vancouver. Sodden roofs, abandoned mattresses and yoga mats. It’ll have it all. They’re all dumped into my Flickr account under the aptly named “Vancouver” set. Here are some recent editions.

Get dirt

USGP Portland 2008

I took this picture two years ago at the USGP in Portland. Which, by the way, was the last time I did a proper cross race. I’ll be making my grand return to the amateur cross scene next weekend at Starcrossed and Rad Racing in Redmond. My expectations are modest as I’ve more or less piled out the last 4 weeks. My enthusiasm for road racing reached an all time low this August, meaning whatever “engine” I had developed over the summer is by now likely crippled. It’s tough to keep it up these days. Competitive cycling is bloody demanding and I’m kind of a lazy dude. Anywho. I’m gonna pick up a couple “loaves” of american cheddar on my way home as reward for my hard work.
