Kitchen Performance

This is a highly evocative piece I created after dinner one evening. It’s a veritable roller coaster ride for ones emotions – certainly not for the faint of heart, nor the conventional of mind.

I’m also available for live performances. Live renditions of Kitchen Performance go over particularly well at ribbon cutting ceremonies and grade school graduations.

Something dark will happen to them anyway

Recently this blog has turned into little more than a place for me to post videos. That’s fine. People like videos. I like videos. Everyone wins.

I came across this “interview” soon-to-be mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford, did with the CBC’s As It Happens. Admittedly I’m not particularly well informed when it comes to municipal politics in cities I no longer live in. That fact will not stop me from voicing my ignorant opinion!

I wanted to give this guy the benefit of the doubt. Maybe, just maybe, he’ll reinvent himself and bury his past humiliations. Maybe he’ll learn to temper his emotions and think, to filter, before he speaks. Maybe he’ll make an effort to empathize with those that hold values unlike his own. Maybe.

Maybe not.

Only a day after elected mayor he has already proven himself a complete ass. Listen to this interview. The mayor of Canada’s most populous city, the 5th largest in North America, can’t afford even 10 minutes to give an interview his own handlers had scheduled for that time. This schlub is too busy barking orders at his (high school football!) players and taking stock of “the juniors” to even acknowledge the completely reasonable questions posed by interviewer Carol Off. Off persists in her questioning and Ford soon cuts the interview short and abruptly hangs up. Very professional Mr. Ford.

I stumbled upon this editorial gem over at the National Post defending Ford’s boorish behaviour because well, Radio 1 (and by extension, As it Happens) is a joke and “it wouldn’t surprise me if he’d never heard of it — or if anyone else had never heard of it, for that matter.”

Okay. I understand a lot of people think the CBC is a turd. When listening to certain shows I feel the same way (Afganada I’m looking at you). Despite its debatable quality, As it Happens does in fact have a good many national listeners, and as such, should be given a certain degree of consideration from the newly elected grand pubah. As mayor of Toronto you have an obligation, as a public figure accountable to those you serve to act in a professional, sensible, mature fashion. Rob Ford did the exact opposite. He was dismissive, provided little more than boilerplate responses (gra-gra-gra-gravy train!!!!) and perhaps worst of all, reinforced the fears that many of his detractors harbour; that he’s a narrow minded, divisive simpleton completely unwilling to work with those that aren’t fully supportive of him or his policies.

I’m amazed nearly 380,000 people actually believe this clod has the ability to lead. WHAT IS GOING ON IN YOUR BRAIN? THIS DUDE IS BAD NEWS AIIIIGHHHHT??!?!?

Perhaps the only upside to this sordid mess is the fact that Rob Ford will surely continue to do all sorts of idiotic stuff, which will fill us with laughter and shortly thereafter, crushing despair.

To lift your spirits I now present to you a charming clip from an appearance Stephen Merritt made on some godawful program down in Georgia.

And an amusing short on Chat Roulette.
